Illingworth Varley A.R.C.A.

Illingworth Varley painted landscapes in both oils and watercolours, which often included figures and animals, and also, portraits. He was born in Saltaire, in Yorkshire, and trained in the art school there, where he ended up on the staff. In 1893 he went down to London to study at St. Johns Wood and Hampstead Art Schools, where he obtained national awards and medals. It was in London that he obtained his ARCA. After spending a few years teaching in London, he was, in 1907, appointed to the position of Headmaster of Malvern School of Art and retained this position until he retired.
He exhibited in the R.A and also in other London galleries as well as galleries in Birmingham and Worcester.
