Artist
William Gersham Collingwood R.A.
1854 - 1932
Collingwood was an English author, artist and professor of Fine Arts at University College, Reading.
His father was a watercolour artist and mother was from Switzerland, so from a young age he was often out and about with
his father, sketching in the Lake District, North Wales and Switzerland.
He attended University College, Oxford, where he met Ruskin. Ruskin admired his draughtmanship, so Collingwood went on
and studied at the Slade School of Art between 1876-1878.
He exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1880.
