Robert Turnbull was born in Berwick on Tweed, Robert was first taught by Eric Huntley, RSA,
before graduating from Manchester College of Art & Design. A period of painting and
studying in Italy and Switzerland was followed by a return to his native North-East where,
through numerous exhibitions at many galleries and an individual style in capturing
atmosphere and texture, his reputation as a leading Northern artist was established.
His many commissions include work presented to the Queen Mother, Princess Margaret
and the Royal Shakespeare Company. He was also a prize winner at the John Laing Art
Competition in 1992, 1993 and 1994.
