William S. Anderson was born on 21 November 1878 in Kilsyth, Glasgow, North Lanarkshire,
Scotland and died in 1929 in Hexham, Northumbria. A few years after Anderson was born
his family moved to Kirkintilloch, East Dunbartonshire, Scotland. On leaving school he was
apprenticed to a firm of ironfounders, Cameron & Robertson of Kirkintilloch, eventually
becoming their commercial traveller. Much of his business was in England and after marrying
Daisy McGlashan in September 1909 the family moved to Hexham, Nothumberland.
Anderson attended the Glasgow School of Art from 1897-1901 winning several Haldene
Bursaries. From 1909 onwards he painted landscapes and street scenes in watercolour and
oils. He also painted still life and interiors.He painted landscapes, interiors and still life in
watercolour and he was also and etcher. He wife's name was Violet and they had two children
named Daisy M and Agnes Violet Neish. He was sometimes
known as Jock Anderson,
